Softball Recap: Pineville Beats Williamsburg for Their Fifth Straight Win

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pineville). They put the hurt on the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets with a sharp 18-1 victory on Friday. The win was nothing new for the Mountain Lions as they're now sitting on five straight.

Rachel Howard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in hits (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Monica Whitehead was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Addison Slone, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Pineville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Pineville's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Williamsburg, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Pineville and Williamsburg will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time Pineville sees the field they'll take on Harlan at 6:00 p.m. on April 8. As for Williamsburg, their break will end when they face Whitley County at 6:00 p.m. on April 7.
