Basketball Game Preview: Maryvale Panthers vs. Rincon/University Rangers

The Maryvale Panthers will take on the Rincon/University Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Maryvale took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They took their match with ease, bagging a 74-45 win over Kofa. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Kings are ranked 302nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Rincon/University was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 74-70 to Sahuaro. The Rangers haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Maryvale is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Rincon/University, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
