Basketball Game Preview: Elgin Owls vs. Purcell Dragons

The Elgin Owls will head out to face off against the Purcell Dragons at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Tuesday, Elgin was beaten by El Reno 80-52. While losing is never fun, the Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while the Indians are ranked 23rd).

Meanwhile, Purcell was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 53-49 to Lindsay. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Elgin's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Purcell, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Elgin came up short against Purcell in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 57-52. Can Elgin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
