Softball Recap: Sandia Has No Trouble Against St. Pius X

Sandia barely beat St. Pius X the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Sandia was the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over St. Pius X on Saturday. The Matadors haven't had any issues with the Sartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Liliana Villanueva made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and one double while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Faith Wersonick was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Lola Valentin was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

Sandia hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Pius X struck out ten times.

The victory got Sandia back to even at 3-3. As for St. Pius X, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Sandia has already played their next contest (against Cleveland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for St. Pius X, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-13 loss against Atrisco Heritage Academy on the 19th.
