Preview: MacArthur Generals vs. Spring Lions

MacArthur is 2-8 against Spring since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The MacArthur Generals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spring Lions at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with nine consecutive losses for MacArthur and three for Spring.

Last Tuesday, MacArthur was the victim of a rough 65-42 loss at the hands of Dekaney. While losing is never fun, MacArthur can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1067th, while Dekaney is ranked 453rd).

Meanwhile, Spring fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Benjamin Davis on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 57-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Spring has suffered since November 20, 2023.

Despite the defeat, Spring got a solid performance out of Darrell Payton, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Payton pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cedric Richardson, who scored eight points along with three steals.

MacArthur has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 20 of their last 21 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-27 record this season. As for Spring, they now have a losing record at 15-16.

MacArthur took a serious blow against Spring when the teams last played back in January, falling 68-32. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Spring's Tadarius Wade, who scored 21 points. Now that MacArthur knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
