Auburn Riverside's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Auburn. The win continues a trend for the Ravens in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won seven in a row.
Danica Butler made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashley Langford, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sophie Opsahl, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Auburn Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburn only posted an OBP of .118.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Catholic lost 17-7 to Stadium on Thursday.
Izzy McDonough and Megan Wintermute stepped up to the plate in a big way. McDonough scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Wintermute scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Moe, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Auburn Riverside's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Kennedy Catholic, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3.
Kennedy Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Auburn Riverside has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Kennedy Catholic, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Auburn Riverside's sizable advantage in that area, Kennedy Catholic will need to find a way to close that gap.
Auburn Riverside took their victory against Kennedy Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Auburn Riverside since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
