Basketball Recap: Reed Wins High-Profile Contest Against Elko

On Friday, Reed faced Elko in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Reed Raiders walked away with a 36-25 win over the Elko Indians. That's more bragging rights for the Raiders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Reed's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Faanaetaua Puloka, who posted 11 points and four steals. Puloka is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Chevelle Roque was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

When it comes to explaining why Elko lost, don't look at Jessica Vera. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Reed now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Elko, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Reed wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-51 win against North Valleys on the 7th. As for Elko, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 31-29 victory against Galena on the 6th.
