Softball Game Preview: Raceland Rams vs. Lewis County Lions

Raceland is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will venture away from home to challenge the Lewis County Lions at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Raceland is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Notre Dame, who was ranked 20th in their home state at the time (Raceland was ranked 21st). The Rams fell just short of the Titans by a score of 5-4 on Thursday. The Rams' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Lily Poplin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Meanwhile, Lewis County lost 9-1 to Greenup County on Thursday. The Lions have struggled against the Musketeers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Lewis County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Raceland, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.

Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Raceland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .424. However, it's not like Lewis County struggles in that department as they've averaged .427. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Raceland took their victory against Lewis County when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 23-6 score. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
