Basketball Recap: Houston Mustangs vs. Southwind Jaguars
The Houston Mustangs can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent match on Monday. They really took it to Southwind for the full four quarters, racking up a 68-27 victory on the road. The win was just what Houston needed coming off of a 68-31 defeat in their prior match.
Houston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amani Lipscomb led the charge by scoring 20 points. Another player making a difference was Anna lee Avery, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Southwind had strong showings from Mckinley Byndom, who scored four points, and Camille Sanders, who scored nine points.
Southwind struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Houston racked up ten assists.
Houston's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-9. As for Southwind, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-13.
Houston won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Cordova will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 114th). As for Southwind, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m.
