Baseball Recap: Mortimer Jordan Takes a Loss

After flying high against Clay-Chalkville last Thursday, Mortimer Jordan came back down to earth. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Cullman Bearcats by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Bearcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Jackson Woodruff was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mortimer Jordan saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Funderburk, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Funderburk has become a key player for the Blue Devils: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 12-13 otherwise.

Mortimer Jordan's loss dropped their record down to 16-15. As for Cullman, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-11.
