Basketball Recap: Magruder Takes a Loss

If Magruder was riding high fresh off their 79-44 takedown of Gaithersburg on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Magruder Colonels fell 54-42 to the Poolesville Falcons on Friday. The Colonels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Magruder lost, don't look at Gerald Suarez. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points. Yannick Mbonda was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Magruder smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Magruder now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Poolesville, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Damascus the next time they take the court. Poolesville will head out to face Damascus at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Magruder will head out to face them at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
