Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Cypress Creek

If Mitchell wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Cypress Creek, they should've done a better job of containing Deslynn Nickell. The Cypress Creek Coyotes walked away with a 53-46 victory over the Mitchell Mustangs on Thursday thanks in part to Nickell, who went 10 of 22 on her way to 28 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The game was her fifth in a row with at least ten points.

Mackenzie Luebs was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to six boards and five steals. That's the most rebounds she has posted since back in December of 2024.

Mitchell's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaylana Little, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards, and Haley Malik, who posted six points along with ten rebounds and three blocks. Little has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brianna Coure, who scored seven points in addition to five assists and five boards.

The win was the third in a row for Cypress Creek, bringing their record for this year to 11-11. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Mitchell, they moved to 18-6 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Cypress Creek has already played their next matchup (against Fivay), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mitchell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-38 victory against Celebration on the 31st.
