Basketball Game Preview: Mitchell County Eagles vs. Randolph-Clay Red Devils

The Mitchell County Eagles will head out to face off against the Randolph-Clay Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Saturday, Mitchell County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 53-49 to Pelham. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Mitchell County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Adrianna Burke went 8 for 14 en route to 20 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedi Williams, who posted four points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Randolph-Clay had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Cougars 43-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Devils have posted since January 16, 2024.

Randolph-Clay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Mitchell County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-11.

Mitchell County came up short against Randolph-Clay in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 57-45. Can Mitchell County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
