Softball Recap: Harding Skippers vs. Cardinal Huskies
Harding extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-3. They lost 18-2 to the Cardinal Huskies. The Skippers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Huskies from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Harding saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arianna Figueroa, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Another was Jaylen Alspaugh, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
As for Cardinal, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.
On Cardinal's side, Kacie Carman made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Carman was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Whitely was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Pleva, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
