Basketball Recap: Lexington Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Lexington extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Blaine Friedmansky. The Lexington Minutemen enjoyed a cozy 56-42 victory over the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons on Tuesday thanks in part to Friedmansky, who went 8 for 14 en route to 22 points and four steals. That's the most steals he has posted since back in November of 2024.

Another player making a difference was Tyler Steffa, who posted six points and seven rebounds. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played.

Lexington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-6.

Lexington and Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Lexington (ranked 180th) will meet Heyworth (ranked 389th) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lexington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.5 points per game this season. Similarly, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley will square off against Watseka at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday up 375 places (241 vs. 616).
