Softball Recap: Dekalb Extends Winning Streak to Three

DeKalb came out on top against Genoa-Kingston on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Barbs took their matchup against the Cogs 7-3. The victory was nothing new for the Barbs as they're now sitting on three straight.

The team relied heavily on Alaynna Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Isabel Aranda, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: DeKalb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

DeKalb's record now sits at 11-9. As for Genoa-Kingston, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15-1.

Coming up, DeKalb is taking a road trip to face off against Larkin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Barbs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Royals have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Genoa-Kingston, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Sycamore at 4:30 p.m. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Cogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
