Preview: Elder Panthers vs. Oak Hills Highlanders
The Elder Panthers's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Oak Hills Highlanders at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Elder is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Oak Hills in Ohio (Elder is ranked 11th, while Oak Hills is ranked 127th).
Last Friday, Elder ended up a good deal behind Archbishop Moeller and lost 48-34. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Elder has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Oak Hills didn't have too much trouble with Mason at home on Friday as they won 60-43. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Oak Hills.
Oak Hills can attribute much of their success to Henry Maginn, who scored 18 points along with two steals, and Nate Riep, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Bobby Stidham was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Elder's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-1. As for Oak Hills, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Elder against Oak Hills when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 56-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Elder since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
