Soccer Game Preview: John Battle vs. Gate City

John Battle hasn't had much luck against Gate City recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m.

John Battle is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Virginia High on Wednesday. The Trojans fell just short of the Bearcats by a score of 3-2.

Meanwhile, Gate City hasn't lost a match since March 24th, a trend which continued in their latest game on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over Central Wise. Gate City might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by three goals or more this season.

Their offense was hitting Central Wise from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Keegan Bright led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by himself.

Gate City has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-1-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 49 goals over those nine contests. As for John Battle, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5-1.

John Battle might still be hurting after the 5-0 loss they got from Gate City in their previous matchup on April 4th. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
