Basketball Recap: Northampton County Takes a Loss

Northampton County lost against North Edgecombe back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Northampton County Jaguars were outmatched by the North Edgecombe Warriors and fell 62-35. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 489th, while the Warriors are ranked 221st).

Despite the defeat, Northampton County had strong showings from Lydia Deloatch, who went 6 for 7 on her way to 15 points, and Kaiyah Cherry, who went 5 of 7 en route to 11 points. That's the most points Deloatch has posted since back in January of 2024.

Northampton County's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for North Edgecombe, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Northampton County Jaguars take on the Wilson Prep Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th. As for North Edgecombe, they will welcome KIPP P at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. KIPP P has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with eight straight defeats, while North Edgecombe will come in with four straight wins.
