Basketball Recap: GV Christian Gets the Win

GV Christian saw some tournament action on Saturday. They walked away with a 40-30 victory over the Pinecrest Academy Cadence Cougars. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Guardians.

Ellie Thurman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 13 boards. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Alyssa Bound was another key player, putting up four points along with nine rebounds and seven steals.

GV Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Despite the defeat, Pinecrest Academy Cadence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sierra Larson posted seven points in addition to four steals and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Janae Sanders, who had five points along with eight boards and four blocks.

GV Christian's record is now 6-8. As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

GV Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 60-14 win against Adelson on the 6th. As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 39-27 loss against Moapa Valley on the 8th.
