Baseball Recap: Greenville Wins Going Away Against Holmes County Central

Greenville's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Holmes County Central Jaguars with a sharp 12-2 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hornets considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Ashton Dean made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Greenville's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-1 (and 3-10 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Ladarius Adkins and Denim Saloane did most of the damage at the plate: Adkins scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-2, while Saloane went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, Saloane posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Quintarus Winters was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Greenville's victory bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Holmes County Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4-4.

Greenville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Jaguars: the pair will be back at it again later today.
