Softball Recap: Redding Christian Comes Up Short

Redding Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Anderson Cubs. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cubs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Klara Wakeman put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Victoria Eckstein made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sophia Bates, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Even though they lost, Redding Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Redding Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7-1. As for Anderson, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Coming up, Redding Christian will be taking part in a tournament against Hoopa Valley at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Anderson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gridley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
