Preview: Memphis Cyclones vs. Shamrock Irish
Memphis is 1-8 against Shamrock since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Memphis Cyclones will head out on the road to take on the Shamrock Irish at 7:00 p.m. Memphis is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
Memphis pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 69-55 to Wheeler. While losing is never fun, Memphis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1308th, while Wheeler is ranked 572nd).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Abel Villa, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Ryder Robison was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Shamrock suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Clarendon, falling 75-24. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Shamrock in their matchups with Clarendon: they've now lost eight in a row.
Memphis bumped their record down to 7-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Shamrock, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.
Memphis couldn't quite finish off Shamrock in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 and fell 42-39. Can Memphis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
