Baseball Game Preview: Lowell Red Arrows vs. East Grand Rapids Pioneers

The Lowell Red Arrows will head out on the road to square off against the East Grand Rapids Pioneers at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lowell's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so East Grand Rapids' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Lowell and Rockford have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Red Arrows fell just short of the Rams by a score of 2-1.

Owen Dennings was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

Mt. Pleasant hit East Grand Rapids with a four-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The two teams finished up on equal footing with a 7-7 tie. The result (or lack thereof) was the first time the Pioneers have been dealt a draw since back in March.

East Grand Rapids' tie makes their record 20-7-2 this season. As for Lowell, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-10-1.

Lowell couldn't quite get it done against East Grand Rapids in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 as they fell 9-6. Can the Red Arrows avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
