Basketball Game Preview: Dekaney Wildcats vs. Westfield Mustangs

Dekaney is 0-10 against Westfield since December of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Dekaney Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Westfield Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Dekaney is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 63-31 win over Aldine. The Wildcats pushed the score to 45-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs had little chance of recovering from.

Meanwhile, Westfield made easy work of Spring on Tuesday and carried off a 58-34 victory. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Lions are ranked 853rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westfield's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.6 points per game. As for Dekaney, they moved to 2-9 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Dekaney was taken down by Westfield 70-21 when the teams last played back in January. Can Dekaney avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
