Basketball Preview: Westland Hialeah Wildcats vs. Hialeah-Miami Lakes Trojans

Westland Hialeah and the Trojans are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Westland Hialeah Wildcats' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Trojans on February 6th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Friday, Westland Hialeah was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to the Knights.

Despite the defeat, Westland Hialeah saw an underclassman step up: Frank Sosa scored 26 points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 57.8% of Westland Hialeah's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jahi Lopez, who scored 15 points.

Meanwhile, Hialeah-Miami Lakes' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell 56-44 to Westland Hialeah. Hialeah-Miami Lakes has struggled against the Wildcats recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Westland Hialeah's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6. As for Hialeah-Miami Lakes, their defeat was their 21st straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-17.

Westland Hialeah was able to grind out a solid victory over the Trojans when the teams last played on Tuesday, winning 56-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westland Hialeah since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
