Basketball Recap: Ian Brantley and Ryan Lowis Secure Win for Southwestern

After only 30 points in their last contest, Southwestern made sure to put some points up on the board against Carlinville on Friday. The Southwestern Piasa Birds walked away with a 56-49 win over the Carlinville Cavaliers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 46-28 back in January.

Southwestern was led to victory by Ryan Lowis and Ian Brantley. Lowis went 6-for-11 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds, while Brantley went 7-for-10 en route to 16 points along with seven boards and three blocks. The dominant performance also gave Lowis a new career-high in assists (four). Connor Wood was another key player, putting up six points and eight assists.

Southwestern was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dominic Alepra, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 18 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Tate Duckels, who went 5-for-7 en route to 13 points.

Southwestern's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-12. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points over those games. As for Carlinville, their record now sits at 13-16.

Southwestern has already played their next match, a 55-41 win against Gillespie on the 18th. As for Carlinville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 44-43 defeat against Litchfield on the 18th.
