Basketball Recap: Newton Homeschool Drops Highest Score of Season Against Chanute Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newton HomeSchool). They breezed by Chanute Christian to the tune of 57-10 on Saturday. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 22 points or more this season.

Newton HomeSchool's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Hoelscher, who went 5 for 10 to rack up 10 points and eight steals. Newton HomeSchool is 6-1 when Hoelscher posts three or more steals, but 3-4 otherwise. Lila Busenitz was another key player, putting up six points and ten steals.

Newton HomeSchool smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Newton HomeSchool pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 18.0 points over those games. As for Chanute Christian, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton HomeSchool will welcome Smoky Valley Home Educators at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Newton HomeSchool has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games. As for Chanute Christian, they will host Liberty HomeSchool Alliance at 7:00 p.m. on February 17th.
