Baseball Game Preview: Mater Dei Knights vs. Gibault Catholic Hawks

The Mater Dei Knights will take on the Gibault Catholic Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Thursday, Mater Dei didn't have quite enough to beat Waterloo and fell 4-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Knights in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Mater Dei saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Salzman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Gibault Catholic faced off against Civic Memorial on Tuesday. The Hawks fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-2. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Dante Gianino spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on ten hits.

Gibault Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Mater Dei, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.

Everything went Mater Dei's way against Gibault Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Mater Dei made off with a 9-2 win. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
