Basketball Recap: Magoffin County Takes a Loss

Magoffin County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. The matchup between them and the Phelps Hornets didn't end well, with the Magoffin County Hornets falling 70-56. Magoffin County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Phelps apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Phelps found their leader in sophomore Tyler Weddington, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 20 rebounds. Weddington is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Zade Rash was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 11 points.

Magoffin County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Phelps, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-8.

Magoffin County will face off against Menifee County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Phelps, they are taking a road trip to challenge Belfry at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Phelps knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Belfry likes a good challenge.
