If Mancos wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Nucla, they should've done a better job of containing Brycen Rummel. The Nucla Mustangs breezed by the Mancos Bluejays to the tune of 63-35 on Thursday thanks in part to Rummel, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 assists. He has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 32 times he's played.
Another player making a difference was Holten McCluer, who went 8 of 12 en route to 16 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds.
Mancos lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Michael Resner, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Eschallier, who had 13 points.
Nucla has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Mancos, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-16.
Nucla will head out to square off against Telluride at 5:30 p.m. on February 7th. As for Mancos, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-25 loss against Ridgway on the 1st.
