Preview: Lowell Red Devils vs. Whiting Oilers
Lowell is 6-1 against Whiting since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Lowell Red Devils will head out on the road to take on the Whiting Oilers at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Lowell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Lowell ultimately got the result they hoped for. They came out on top against Hobart by a score of 43-34.
Bre Kidd was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 15 points along with two steals. Elysia Laub was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four blocks and two steals.
Meanwhile, Whiting had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 52-40 win over Griffith on Thursday. The victory was just what Whiting needed coming off of a 75-29 loss in their prior matchup.
Whiting can attribute much of their success to Torie Davis, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Davis has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Quinones, who scored 11 points along with five assists and five steals.
Lowell's record now sits at 11-8. As for Whiting, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11-1.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Lowell have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Whiting, though, as they've been averaging only 29.7 rebounds per game. Given Lowell's sizeable advantage in that area, Whiting will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Lowell against Whiting when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 49-18 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lowell since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
