Doss had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it eight. They lost 10-0 to the Holy Cross Cougars. If the Dragons were looking for revenge after losing 19-0 to the Cougars when the teams met back in May of 2016, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Holy Cross, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-12. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.
For Holy Cross' part, Mason Lanham made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Lanham also allowed no hits, which is notable because Holy Cross is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 9-11 otherwise. Lanham was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
In other pitching news, Jaxson Taylor looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Avery Roy was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Holy Cross: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-12 otherwise. Mason Hornback also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Looking ahead, Doss will venture away from home to take on Iroquois at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dragons are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Holy Cross, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Pleasure Ridge Park at 5:30 p.m. The Panthers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
