Baseball Recap: Preston Comes Up Short

Preston lost against Lincoln last Monday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Knights fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by just one run.

Tanner Thomas was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Preston is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-6 otherwise. Thomas was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Bryson McNew made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Malik Powell also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Preston and nudges their season record down to 8-8. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Lincoln, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Preston will square off against Keyser at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lincoln, they will face off against Grafton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
