Basketball Game Preview: Abbeville Panthers vs. GREEN Upstate Owls

The Abbeville Panthers will head out to challenge the GREEN Upstate Owls at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Abbeville's defense has only allowed 27.2 points per game this season, so GREEN Upstate's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Abbeville is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind, posting a 72-23 victory. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Hornets are ranked 614th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Abbeville relied on the efforts of Ar'Naisyah Gray, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds, and DeLonna Mathis, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. Gray is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. Anecia Dawson was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Abbeville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 49 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, GREEN Upstate was not able to break out of their rough patch last Wednesday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 40-12 loss at the hands of Greer Middle College.

GREEN Upstate's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Abbeville, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
