Softball Game Preview: Bryan Golden Bears vs. Elmwood Royals

The Bryan Golden Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Elmwood Royals at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bryan will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Bryan's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Liberty Center as they made off with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Bears in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won six in a row.

Mylie Vollmer and Josey Arnold did most of the damage at the plate: Vollmer went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Arnold went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Arnold a new career-high. Taylor Dominique also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Bryan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Elmwood's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastwood.

Bryan's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Elmwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

Bryan beat Elmwood 8-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
