North Bay recap October 29, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Rancho Cotate, who defeated 328th ranked Maria Carrillo, 42-28.
Casa Grande added to the longest winning streak in North Bay this week by beating Ukiah, 45-14. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Gauchos.
Casa Grande's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. JaJuan Lawson threw for 132 and 3 touchdowns and Andre Kupelian had 64 yards receiving. On the ground John Porchivina contributed 54 yards. Cody Hughson helped Casa Grande's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 58 yards.
Porchivina was the best running back in the league this week. In 6 carries, he ran for 54 yards as Trent Herzog's team topped the Wildcats. Teammate Hughson added to the ground attack by rushing for 55 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Lawson of the Gauchos is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,359. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Etienne Ezeff. The Montgomery star has 28 catches for 353 yards.
Logan Francavilla of the Montgomery is only 49 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 161 carries Francavilla has put up 951 yards this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Casa Grande takes on Windsor. The Gauchos are in first place, while the Jaguars are in fifth place.
The Cougars scaled the state rankings by moving to 301 from 342 this week, the biggest jump in North Bay. Rancho Cotate was able to move up by besting Maria Carrillo 42-28.
