After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Red Bluff, University Prep was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They breezed past McKinleyville to the tune of 41-13. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for University Prep's offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Talis Payne had an outrageously good game as he threw for 185 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 90 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries. Isaiah Dewitt was Payne's top target, picking up 110 receiving yards and two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: University Prep was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 219 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

University Prep didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dewitt and Danny Gonzalez.

When it comes to explaining why McKinleyville lost, don't look at Jeremiah Smith. Despite the final result, he rushed for 136 yards and one touchdown.

University Prep's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for McKinleyville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University Prep will venture away from home to face off against Fortuna at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for McKinleyville, they will head out to square off against Cloverdale at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
