Softball Recap: Richmond Comes Up Short

Richmond extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-9 in the process. They came up short against the El Cerrito Gauchos, falling 25-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Oilers haven't been shut out since back in March.

As for El Cerrito, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by ten runs or more this season.

For El Cerrito's part, Courtney Miles was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over 4.2 innings pitched. Miles has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, El Cerrito let Arlie Tatum and Ashlynne Hollins run wild. Tatum went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Hollins went 2-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. Tatum is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sanai Vanhook, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Richmond does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for El Cerrito, they will head out on the road to face off against Kennedy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
