The South View Tigers will take on the Gray's Creek Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (South View 2.2, Gray's Creek 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
South View easily dispatched Lumberton on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Tigers fell just short of Purnell Swett by a score of 9-7 on Wednesday. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
MADDY CLARK made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. SAVANNA HARDEE was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Gray's Creek entered their tilt with Lumberton on Tuesday with 11 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 12. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Pirates.
Hannah Welsh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Amber Miller was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Another player making a difference was Saniyah Leach, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Gray's Creek hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive matchups.
Gray's Creek's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for South View, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South View has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .513. However, it's not like Gray's Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .538. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South View couldn't quite finish off Gray's Creek in their previous matchup back in March and fell 3-1. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
