Softball Recap: Morningside Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Synergy Magnet K12 last Tuesday, Morningside Academy came back down to earth. The Morningside Academy Eagles fell 11-6 to the Lincoln Park Academy Greyhounds on Thursday. The match marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Leigha Race was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Trinity Richards and Madison LeVasseur stepped up to the plate in a big way. Richards scored a run while going 2-for-3, while LeVasseur got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Even though they lost, Morningside Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .553 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Having lost for the first time this season, Morningside Academy fell to 5-1. As for Lincoln Park Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morningside Academy will challenge Master's Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Lincoln Park Academy, they will face off against Martin County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Martin County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
