Softball Recap: Nokomis Takes a Loss

Nokomis dropped to 7-3 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Skowhegan River Hawks by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Warriors couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Skowhegan, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Skowhegan's part, Abigale Carey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Carey.

On the hitting side, Skowhegan's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jaiden Dodge, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Addison Lynch was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Nokomis will be playing at home against Gardiner at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Skowhegan, they will head out on the road to take on Lewiston at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the River Hawks 2, the Blue Devils 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
