Basketball Recap: Anna Falls Despite Big Games from Lamin Foon and R.J. Gardner

Anna lost against Melissa back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Anna Coyotes lost 58-38 to the Melissa Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Coyotes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 469th, while the Cardinals are ranked 101st).

Anna's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of R.J. Gardner, who went 6 for 15 en route to 15 points, and Lamin Foon, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Foon is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games he's played.

Anna has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season. As for Melissa, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-11.

Anna will look to defend their home court on January 28th against Sherman at 7:30 p.m. Anna is facing Sherman at the right time seeing as Sherman is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. Melissa has already played their next game, a 93-65 win against Denison on the 24th.
