Basketball Recap: West Mecklenburg Comes Up Short

West Mecklenburg lost against Rocky River back in November of 2019 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The West Mecklenburg Hawks took a blow against the Rocky River Ravens, falling 72-16. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 493rd, while the Ravens are ranked 168th).

Rocky River's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lundyn Spears, who went 7-for-15 on her way to 19 points and five steals. What's more, Spears also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Tristin Jarrett was another key player, going 5-for-11 en route to 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

West Mecklenburg's loss was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Rocky River, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-7.

Looking ahead, West Mecklenburg will welcome Harding University at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Mecklenburg is facing Harding University at the right time seeing as Harding University is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Rocky River, they will head out on the road to take on Garinger at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rocky River has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
