Baseball Recap: Auburn Trojans vs. Kentridge Chargers
Auburn extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-14 in the process. They came up short against the Kentridge Chargers, falling 9-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on April 1st.
Auburn saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Cornwall, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Kentridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games.
On Kentridge's side, Jackson Loganbill and Beckham Gerber dominated on the mound. Loganbill struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits, while Gerber tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gerber has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Auburn is set to face off against their familiar foe Kentwood at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Kentridge will challenge rival Auburn Riverside at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chargers 3.5, the Ravens 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
