Basketball Recap: South-Doyle Takes a Loss

South-Doyle lost against Heritage back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The South-Doyle Cherokees took a hard 72-53 fall against the Heritage Mountaineers. While losing is never fun, the Cherokees can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while the Mountaineers are ranked fifth).

Despite the loss, South-Doyle saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Payton Rollins went 8 for 17 on her way to 22 points and five rebounds. That was a full 41.5% of South-Doyle's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

South-Doyle has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Heritage, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

South-Doyle will venture away from home to square off against Carter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South-Doyle is facing Carter at the right time seeing as Carter is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Heritage, they will host Campbell County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
