Baseball Game Preview: San Domenico Panthers vs. University Red Devils

For the second straight game, San Domenico will face off against University. The Panthers will head out to square off against the Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. San Domenico has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for San Domenico's offense. They lost 14-0 to University on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For University's part, Sabin Verplaetse made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Verplaetse has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Alexander Coleman was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Mattie Grisso, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

The victory was the ninth in a row for University, bringing their record up to 14-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for San Domenico, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
