Basketball Recap: Lebanon Comes Up Short

Lebanon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were dealt a 97-59 defeat at the hands of the New Athens Yellow Jackets. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 713th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 328th).

When it comes to explaining why Lebanon lost, don't look at Nicholas Burger. Despite the final result, he went 9-for-16 to rack up 22 points and three steals. Those 22 points gave Burger a new career-high. Deion Washington was another key player, going 7-for-17 on his way to 17 points.

Lebanon's loss dropped their record down to 4-21. As for New Athens, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Lebanon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-50 defeat against First Baptist Academy on the 17th. As for New Athens, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-56 loss against Carlyle on the 15th.
