Preview: Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys vs. Goliad Tigers
The Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Goliad Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Falfurrias focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Falfurrias, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 34-19 loss to San Diego. Falfurrias has not had much luck with San Diego recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Falfurrias' defeat came about despite a quality game from Rene Martinez, who rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Goliad had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-0 victory over Palacios on the road. Goliad might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six games by 20 points or more this season.
Falfurrias' defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Goliad, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Falfurrias took a serious blow against Goliad in their previous matchup back in November of 2016, falling 42-7. Thankfully for Falfurrias, Rocky Morris (who threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
