Softball Game Preview: Port Chester Rams vs. Scarsdale Raiders

Port Chester hasn't had much luck against Scarsdale recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Rams will face off against the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Port Chester has given up an average of 14.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Port Chester's offense. They came up short against Clarkstown North on Thursday, falling 18-0. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, Port Chester's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Scarsdale not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 3, 2024. They were the clear victors by a 22-14 margin over Greeley. With that victory, the Raiders brought their scoring average up to 8.8 runs per game.

O. Unis was incredible, going 2-for-6 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs. Another player making a difference was S. McCarthy, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.

Unis wasn't the only one making solid contact: Scarsdale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The win got Scarsdale back to even at 2-2. As for Port Chester, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Port Chester has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .531. However, it's not like Scarsdale struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Port Chester came up short against Scarsdale in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, falling 15-12. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
